Country of Origin Burma.

chloromelanite is described as "a mixed crystal of aegirine, diopside and jadeite with a mixing ratio of about 1:1:1". This corresponds to the definition of the German Gemmological Society [Henn, 2008]. However, mixed crystals with the specified mixing ratio now bear the mineral name "Omphacite" recognized by the CNMNC Commission (Commission of New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification) responsible for naming minerals. Chloromelanite, on the other hand, is not recognized as a mineral name.

The inconsistent naming eventually led to the term being dropped in the 20th century. Since then it has been considered obsolete because it was far too unspecific for a scientifically correct nomenclature. In the period that followed, the various rocks previously referred to as chloromelanite were renamed and addressed with their mineralogically correct name.

In the gemmological literature, however, the term survived until the end of the 20th century [Schumann, 1997; Webster, 2000] and has served as an obsolete synonym for a rock now known around the world as " maw-sit-sit jade ".

Maw sit sit jade got its name from the village where it was found, in northern Burma.
